Free-trial toggle paywall rejected (3.1.2) — the “RIP toggle” rejection wave
Your paywall has a switch that turns a free trial on or off (default OFF, cheaper plan pre-selected), and App Review rejected it under 3.1.2 as confusing. This is the wave of rejections that started in mid-January 2026 against the popular 'trial toggle' design.
Apple said something like
Guideline 3.1.2 - Business - Payments - Subscriptions. The purchase screen includes a toggle to add or remove a free trial from the subscription purchase. This design is confusing and may prevent users from understanding that they are committing to an auto-renewing subscription that will begin charging them after the free trial period.
Next Steps: Remove the toggle for adding or removing a free trial from the subscription purchase screen. Users should be presented with a clear subscription offer that explicitly states whether a free trial is included.
The price and length of the auto-renewable subscription are not clearly and conspicuously displayed to the user prior to purchase. (Often paired with the toggle rejection when a large '$X/week' sits next to a much larger real annual charge.)
